Sweetheart Square

Happy Granny Square Day! Today I'm sharing a pattern called Sweetheart Square! There are 17 rounds (18 if joining them together) and it measures about 5" if using size 10 crochet thread. This square uses the same textured hearts that are in the Sweetheart Soiree doily.

If you would like just the written pattern, it's available here-

Blocking and Finishing

It is optional but recommended to block your finished piece. Fill a bowl with water and add some liquid starch if you prefer the doily to be lightly stiffened. Soak and gently press out any excess liquid, being careful not to pull or twist on the stitches. Lay it flat on a blocking mat and pin the doily working from the center out to the edges. Allow to dry completely before removing the pins.

  1. Thank you so much for adding the chart symbols to the photos. I have not had the confidence to use a chart instead of a pattern, and this is truly helpful to me as I learn. I also LOVE your patterns.

  2. Do you have this as pdf for sale? The work you have done for instruction is incredible! Do you remember the Magic Crochet magazine? The detail was so helpful along with the written instructions! You have gone one better!

  6. I appreciate another one of your outright gorgeous projects! My favorite color choice of yours is the pink, blue, and white version that you have pictured last on Ravelry. Can you help me with the specific points of the color changes? I would also LOVE to know if you carried the non-working yarn under/behind every stitch and if so, how many strands of each color did you have to carry underneath the stitched at one time? Again, thanks SOOO much for creating this beautiful doily!! <3

  9. ... picking chin up from the floor ...

Wow! Gorgeous - I'm going to save just for eye candy! I am looking to make a friend a 60 x 60 inch square afghan out of Soft Blue Caron Simply Soft yarn - she wants a very cuddly blanket.

I love your work. Double Wow!

  11. Thanks Bunches for sharing your art. My 10yr granddaughter has set this summer as her time for mommy to teach her to crochet. "She wants to be an artist like Grammy and the person that made that". She saw me pull up this square school ;~)

  12. I was so intimidated to try this, it is by far the most advanced pattern I've done so far as a relatively new crochet-er, but your instructions and diagrams made it pretty easy! Thank you for such a fun and easy to follow pattern.
